I started teaching middle school language arts in the Atlanta Public School System in 2021, and moved to the Washington DC area where I taught 9th and 10th grade English in Prince George's County Public Schools at Frederick Douglass High School under the principal who became the CEO of PGCPS.  After a few years of teaching English and serving as the director of the theatre department, I left Maryland to teach in Fairfax County at West Potomac High School.  I taught English and coached Debate where I grew the team from 5 to 75 and won triple state championships, propelling my team to nationals for the first time in school history. 

 

Next, I went to teach at the historic Dunbar High School, the nation's first black high school, where I founded the Eleanor Holmes Norton Leadership Academy in Business and Public Policy, which is now the Law and Public Policy Academy.  I also taught at a small private school near my home when my own children were little in order to be closer to them; there, I taught 6-12th grade English and Language Arts.

 

 I also coached debate and took over the District of Columbia Urban Debate League where students competed in Qatar!

 

Next, I entered Caesar Chavez Public Charter School in the DC Charter School Network. There, I taught English and a special college prep class; placing and monitoring students in professional internships, as well as SAT preparation and career readiness.

I taught English, Public Speaking, Acting, and Humanities and served as an academic recruiter in the first private high school in Washington DC, Emerson Preparatory School.

My latest coaching experience was at The Potomac School, where several top ranked debaters competed in multiple championships and National circuit competitions from U Florida to Harvard.    I've coached debaters from California, Ohio, Florida, Indiana, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland and Virginia.  I've tutored students from Australia, Canada, and all over the United States.

 

My entire journey of teaching students who had never flown on a plane to those who owned yachts and traveled the world has taught me how to be a teacher to all.  I have adapted my style to teach learners from all socioeconomic and racial backgrounds.  In all, I realize that all parents want the same thing for their children: to grow up to be happy, successful, and responsible people; that is why I believe that University Pro is a need for every student in every situation.
